Common Core Workshop Series

The Common Core Workshops are intended to prepare in-service Imperial Valley teachers to teach mathematics according to the new Common Core State Standards. The workshops are centered around the eight Standards of Mathematical Practice and provide training in both mathematics content and associated pedagogy and teaching strategies. The mathematics content is intended to be accessible to elementary teachers, but we welcome secondary math teachers too. The workshop series will run throughout the 2012/13 academic year for a total of 40 hours. The meetings will be held on weeknights and/or Saturdays. We will try to accommodate participants' schedules as much as possible. Space is limited to 25 teachers.

Math Team Leader Meetings

These are intended to support secondary mathematics teachers in the Imperial Valley who coach math clubs or math teams at their schools. The meetings cover math content and pedagogy--in the spirit of the Common Core State Standards--that arise in such a context. Participants are invited to share ideas, exercises, and activities with each other. The meetings will take place throughout the 2012/13 academic year for a total of 20 hours. The meetings will be held on weeknights and/or Saturdays. We will try to accommodate participants' schedules as much as possible. Space is limited to 10 teachers.

Mini-grants for teacher based projects

IVMP invites applications from Imperial Valley teachers--either individually or in teams--for funding projects that advance K-12 math education in the Imperial Valley. The projects are expected to serve local students and/or teachers and demonstrate/enhance the leadership skills. Grants are limited to $1500 for individual proposals and $2500 for team projects. Funding is limited. We expect to sponsor 2-3 project in 2012/13. Here is the Request for Proposals with detailed instructions, deadlines, and evaluation criteria.
