Homework:

Webwork problem sets close at midnight at the end of the day they are due. So for example the set that is due 9/15 closes as 9/15 becomes 9/16. The computer is inflexible about the deadline, and computers/internet connections etc have the bad habit of failing as you cram to finish your homework just before time runs out. So be wise, start early.

In problems 7, 11, and 12, keep in mind the direction of an inequality changes if you multiply by a negative number. This will force you to look at several cases. In problems 5-6, 8, and 9, deal with the absolute value by considering several cases depending on whether the quantity inside is positive (or 0), or negative.

The problem of the fortnight:
The Mathematics Department in San Diego posts a new fun problem every two weeks.  If you'd like to submit a solution, give it or e-mail it to me, so that I can fax them all together to San Diego. Winners receive prizes.

California Mathematics Council conference: Here is the official website of the conference. If you are coming along to the conference, please, look at the online conference schedule and pick some talks you will want to attend. Once at the conference, it is easy to be overwhelmed by the number of options and spend the day reading the schedule and wandering around looking for the locations instead of attending talks.
